BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
What to Bring to Your First Consultation
There’s no strict checklist for seeing a spine surgeon, but the more you bring, the less time gets spent reconstructing your history and the more time goes toward your actual diagnosis. If you’re missing something on this list, come anyway; it isn’t a barrier to being seen.
- Any previous scans or imaging reports (MRI, X-ray, CT)
- A list of current medications and doses
- Your GP or referral letter, if you have one
- Notes on when the pain started and what makes it better or worse
- Insurance pre-authorisation details, if using private medical insurance
- Comfortable clothing: a physical examination is usually part of the visit
